Rod’s Community Goals

Water

Our never ending nightmare continues, Working with our Township Administrator, we push to complete a deal between the City and the County to take over water and sewer service. Seniors, individuals on fixed incomes and those served by the county need to have rates that are fair and in line with other central Ohio communities. Trustees are updated on this issue at every board meeting.

Housing

Housing Maintenance codes and Home Owners Associations (HOA) are not the same and should not be confused. Prairie Township passed a property maintenance code in 2022 for commercial and multi-family homes to ensure the stability of structures in the Township. Currently, the new code will begin enforcement in January 2023. The township Zoning Department will enforce the property maintenance code. The purpose of the code is to let the residents and landlords know what is required, the actions that need to take place, and the time frame necessary for correction.

Prairie Township does not currently have an HOA. HOA’s are often associated with new home construction and incorporate standards for design. Prairie Township is an established community with a variety of homes. We are not a group of tract homes, that’s what makes us unique.

Local Matters

Like many area residents, I like to support local businesses whenever possible. Prairie township needs to recognize area businesses, support them with township purchases and listen to the concerns they have.

Strategic Planning

We need to plan for the future. Prairie Township needs to set direction, create goals and make decisions on how we reach those goals. Any plan should address resident concerns and involve the residents. Planning is not done one time, it’s a process that should be looked at and updated annually.

Safety

We have one of the best fire departments in Central Ohio. The township needs to make sure that our firefighters are equipped with personal safety equipment that is up to date for all members. The township authorized the purchase of new helmets, and we will replace any outdated equipment. A new squad is on order and should be delivered in the spring of 2023. In addition, the Trustees have approved and accepted a Federal grant for over 3 million dollars to hire nine new full time firefighters.
